Course Offerings
The Office of Teacher Leadership is offering Teacher Leader University (TLU), a variety of continuing professional development (CPD) credit options and programs, with the goal of supporting teachers in developing leadership skills. BCPS staff should utilize the online registration system to register for TLU courses.
Fall 2023
Course Title: The Fundamentals of Teacher Leadership
- Course Description: Do you have aspirations of becoming a teacher leader? Perhaps a Staff Development Teacher, Consulting Teacher, or Resource Teacher? Are you interested in adding skills to your leadership toolbox in order to be a leader from within the classroom? Maybe you're unsure of what your next step is and you want to explore your options? Then this is the course for you!
The Office of Teacher Leadership is offering The Fundamentals of Teacher Leadership, a 1 credit CPD course for any teacher. Topics covered in this course include leadership beliefs, leading from within and outside of the classroom, coaching, adult-learning theory, job-embedded professional development, utilizing the school-progress plan, and more! You will develop a foundation of leadership skills and beliefs that will help guide you towards the next step in your career.
- Course Format: This course consists of 5 asynchronous modules through Schoology. This course is not self-paced.
- Number of Credits: 1 CPD Credit (15 hours)
- Course Dates: October 2, 2023 – December 8, 2023

Course Title: Student-Centered Coaching Book Study
- Course Description: The Department of Organizational Development and Leadership is offering a 1-credit CPD Book Study for "The Essential Guide for Student-Centered Coaching" by Diane Sweeney and Leanne Harris.
Participants will be required to provide their own copy of the book. There are copies available to borrow through Destiny or you can purchase your own copy to keep.
- Course Format: This course consists of 2 synchronous sessions and 4 asynchronous modules.
- Number of Credits: 1 CPD Credit (15 hours)

Course Title: The Leadership Challenge
- Course Description: Developed by The Leadership Challenge authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner and backed by over 35 years of research, The Leadership Challenge will teach you The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® which represent essential aspects of leadership and is the evidence-based gold standard framework for leadership development.
Course Format: This course consists of monthly synchronous sessions with some intersession asynchronous work.
