Purpose


The Elementary English Language Arts (ELA) team serves as a centralized support for fostering excellence in literacy education within our elementary schools. We aim to provide strategic leadership, aligned resources, and support to empower educators, administrators, and students in fostering literacy proficiency and a lifelong love for reading and writing.

McGraw Hill Open Court Foundational Skills

Open Court Foundational Skills is our core program for instruction in foundational literacy skills.

• Alphabetic Knowledge – recognizing and forming letters
• Phonological and Phonemic Awareness – knowing that words are made up of sounds
• Phonics/Decoding – connecting sounds and spellings, then blending them together to read words
• Fluency – reading at a good pace with expression and accuracy
• Morphological Awareness – reading and understanding longer words by breaking them into meaningful parts

HMH Into Reading

HMH Into Reading is the core curriculum for Elementary English Language Arts for reading comprehension and written language for grades K-5, and word study in grades 4-5.

HMH offers the Family Room, an ever-growing library of on-demand resources so families can be a part of their children’s learning. In the Family Room, families can access simple, helpful at home learning support and personalized tips and videos.
