Principal Internship Program

In order to build a pipeline into the principalship, a professional learning pathway for Assistant Principals, The Principal Internship, has been designed for the 2023-2024 school year. This professional learning pathway is a blend of coursework, opportunities to provide professional learning, and an internship. Participants meet six times between November-April in addition to a four-week internship. The four-week internship is comprised of a two-week shadowing experience and two-week leadership opportunity where the intern will serve as the independent leader of their internship school. Applications for the program are released in September of each school year with selections and notifications made in October.

Application criteria include:

  1. Two years of assistant principal experience.
  2. Effective or highly effective rating on most recent evaluation.
  3. Possession of an Administrator II endorsement and/or agreement to sit for the Administrator II certification exam.
  4. Inclusion in the BCPS Principal Pool and/or agreement to participate in the Assessment Skills Center by the end of the PIP program.
  5. Participation in all six PIP in-person sessions.
  6. Completion of a required leadership essay/prompt.
