Process for Receiving Approval for School-Based Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Credit

The appropriate school-based facilitator (school administrator or designee) completes and submits the required MSDE Planning Form and Content Delivery Matrix (see guidelines below) to request approval for the CPD experience prior to it taking placeThe school-based facilitator must complete and submit the required documentation to request approval for a CPD experience each time it is offered.

Guidelines

  • A minimum of 5 educators plus the instructor must be committed to completing the CPD course. 
  •  A minimum of 75% of the activity must occur outside of paid duty hours.
    CPD Credit Activity Hours (The number of requested credits must be indicated.)
  • 15 hours of activity = 1 credit
  • 30 hours of activity = 2 credits
  • 45 hours of activity = 3 credits
  • A maximum of 25% of time may be allocated to reading texts, viewing videos, etc.

The Approval Process

  1. The MSDE Planning Form and Content Delivery Matrix should be submitted to Jill Snell at [email protected]. Please cc your school administrator.
  2.  The Office of Teacher Leadership will approve the professional learning experience/course and email confirmation of approval to the course manager/facilitator and administrator.
  3. With the assistance from a member of the Office of Teacher Leadership (Katelin Holleran), the school-based facilitator will BUILD the school-based CPD course in the Registration System. NOTE: To submit a course in the Registration System, the facilitator must be trained as a COURSE BUILDER through the Office of Technology Training and Compliance Management. If you are not trained as a COURSE BUILDER, a member of the team will enter the course.
  4. Attach the planning form and matrix to the course and add Jill Snell, Katelin Holleran. and yourself as instructors. Include the Schoology group/course join code in the section notes.
Participant Registration and Course Closeout
  1. Participants will register for school-based CPD offerings through the Registration System. The course facilitator must also register for the course.
  2. The school-based facilitator tracks and documents participation and completion of all activities in the learning management system (Schoology).
  3. The school-based CPD facilitator is responsible for reconciling attendance and closing the course in the Registration System.
  4. The Office of Teacher Leadership will provide a CPD form template for the school-based facilitator to distribute to course participants.
  5. The school-based facilitator completes and signs a credit report form for each participant. The school-based facilitator may receive credit for facilitating the professional learning experience. The school-based facilitator’s credit report form must be signed by the principal. The Office of Teacher Leadership does not offer payment for school-based CPD facilitation.
  6. The school-based facilitator sends a screenshot of the Schoology gradebook screen and the completed credit forms to the Office of Teacher Leadership (Katelin Holleran, [email protected]).
  7. The Office of Teacher Leadership will send a copy of all completed CPD forms to the Office of Teacher Development for processing.
  8. The Office of Teacher Development will send an electronic copy of each credit form to the appropriate participant and one copy directly to the Office of Certification. Please allow 8-10 weeks for this process to be completed.
