Central and Northeast Area Middle School Boundary Study

Approval/Implementation

  • On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the BCPS Board of Education approved the recommended boundary Option (Option E). 
  • Boundary implementation will occur in two phases:
    • Phase 1, School Year 2024-2025:  Will include all moving addresses except those moving to or from Pine Grove MS.  Phase 1 areas are outlined in blue on the approved PDF map above.
    • Phase 2, School Year 2025-2026: Will include the remaining addresses moving to or from Pine Grove MS.  Phase 2 areas are outlined in pink on the approved PDF map above.
  • The interactive boundary map is updated with the approved middle school boundary.
  • We extend our sincerest thanks to all committee members and community participants who provided feedback and contributed to this important process
  • Please continue to monitor this page for information related to notifications, timing, and implementation of the new boundaries.

Purpose

  • Establish an attendance area for the new Northeast Area Middle School (construction forthcoming).
  • Expand the attendance area for Pine Grove MS and its addition (construction forthcoming)
  • Provide capacity relief to participating Central and Northeast Area middle schools.

Boundary Study Committee

The boundary study committee will be identified this Fall 2022 and will convene in January 2023. Between January and April 2023, the committee will meet five times and host two public information sessions in March 2023 to share the group’s work, talk with community members, and gather information. In May and June 2023, the Board of Education will consider and take action on the committee’s recommendation, including holding a public hearing.

Please join the boundary study committee for these Public Information Sessions.  Both sessions will have the same presentation.  Public feedback is critical to a successful boundary process and all are welcome to attend these meetings.  This is an opportunity to:

  • Attend a presentation reviewing the committee work to date and an overview of the selected options.
  •  Understand the boundary considerations the committee used in their work.
  • Review the data and the option maps selected by the committee.
  • Discuss options with committee members.
  • Participate in the online survey to provide feedback and comments to the committee members.
