Northeast Area Elementary Boundary Study

Approval/Implementation

On Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the BCPS Board of Education approved the recommended boundary option (Option 2).

Purpose

  • Establish attendance area for newly constructed Northeast Elementary School (anticipated to open Fall 2022)
  • Expand attendance area for Red House Run Elementary School replacement (anticipated to open in Fall 2023)
  • Provide capacity relief to participating Northeast elementary schools

Boundary Study Committee

The boundary study committee will be identified this Summer 2021 and will convene in September 2021. Between September and December 2021, the group will meet six times, as well as host a public information session in November to share the group’s work, talk with community members, and gather information. In February and March 2022, the Board of Education will consider and take action on the committee’s recommendation, including holding a public hearing.

Virtual Meeting for public

Please join the boundary study committee for this Public Information Session.  Public feedback is critical to a successful boundary process and all are welcome to attend this virtual meeting.  This is an opportunity to:
  • Attend a presentation reviewing the committee work to date and an overview of the selected options.
  • Understand the boundary considerations the committee used in their work.
  • Review the data and the two option maps selected by the committee.
  • Ask questions via online chat to facilitators and committee members.
  • Participate in the online survey to provide feedback and comments to the committee members.  The survey ran from November 3 through November 17, 2021 and is now closed.  Sincerest thanks to all who participated.  Survey results will be posted for the December 1 meeting coming soon.

Virtual Board of Education Public Hearing 

The Board of Education of Baltimore County will hold a virtual public hearing to seek input concerning proposed boundary lines for the new Northeast Area Elementary School.

The hearing will be held virtually on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. The Board will conduct the public hearing by allowing members of the public to call in by phone. Information regarding participation by the public and a link to the registration form may be found on the Board of Education’s Participation by the Public website. Registration will open on Wednesday, February 9 and close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15. Registered participants will receive a confirmation of their registration, along with the call-in number, passcode to join the meeting, and public comment guidelines and procedures the day of the hearing. Comments are limited to 3 minutes per speaker. No speaker substitutions will be allowed. Written testimony may also be sent to the board by e-mail at [email protected]. The Board is expected to vote on the proposed boundary on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

The school system is committed to accessible communication with its stakeholders. Accordingly, the scheduled Board of Education public hearing will be broadcast through a Microsoft Teams Live event.
