National Board Certification

Established in 1987, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit organization working to advance accomplished teaching for all students.  At the present time, there are over 100,000 teachers nationwide who have achieved National Board Certification.

Completion of the process is recognized as a valuable professional development experience. Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) supports teachers seeking National Board Certification through the Maryland State local aid program. Educators seeking this support must apply.

Eligibility criteria selection timeframe and procedures are determined by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) regulation.
