About the BCPS Youth Apprenticeship Program
The Baltimore County Public Schools Youth Apprenticeship program is a collaborative effort with the Maryland Department of Labor and local employers. The program is designed to provide opportunities for students to "learn while they earn." Most employers participate in the program to help grow their own work force.
The MD Youth Apprenticeship program is for 11th and 12th grade students, though, interest and planning can begin in 10th grade. An ideal youth apprenticeship candidate is a student who wants to gain experience in the workplace with plans to continue in that industry after graduation.

For Students: Process
Begin by connecting to the Work-Based Learning Coordinator in your high school. Students can apply to the current pool of state-approved Youth Apprenticeship employers. Students would then interview. If a student is selected, they are employed in paid part-time positions under the cooperative supervision of the employer/mentor and their school’s Work-based Learning Coordinator. Apprentices are responsible for arranging their own transportation. However, collaboration between the school, the CTE Office, and the community can lead to reduction of barriers.
