Cromwell Valley Elementary and Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, were among ninety-five nationally from 14 states to receive the top honor, and the only Maryland schools recognized. - Fit Friday - A group of students at Mars Estates Elementary School in grades 3, 4, and 5 reached a milestone by completing a 5K run. Graduation Rates - BCPS saw a 2.02 percentage increase in the number of students graduating from county schools. The graduation rate was 83.3 percent among the class of 2012. National Honor - Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts principal, Ryan Imbriale, is one of three honorees to receive a national honor for technology leadership. Empty Bowl Project - Students and staff from Catonsville High School are taking part in the annual Empty Bowls Project charity event by creating one of a kind works of art ceramic bowls. Science Search- The Intel Science Talent Search, the nation's most prestigious pre-college science competition, named Dulaney High School senior Lisa Ann Tang as a semifinalist. App Launch - Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts unveiled their latest mobile app called "Hall Sweep". Hoops for a Cause - Seventh grade students from Pikesville Middle School took to the courts for the annual "Hoops for Heart" campaign, to raise funds for the American Heart Association. BGE Video Winner - Vincent Farm Elementary School was named the gold prize winner in the BGE's Wires Down Video Challenge that was launch in the fall of 2012. The school received $10,000. Best Tech Teacher - Southwest Academy Magnet Middle School teacher Kim Sturdivant-Miller, is this year's winner of the Technology and Engineering Educators Association of Maryland. JROTC Museum - Parkville High School recently unveiled the Marine Corps JROTC class museum which holds a collection of uniforms, hats, replicas and artifacts dating back to the 1800s. What's Trending: Education Grant - Karen Barnes, principal of Southwest Academy Magnet School was among 25 recipients across the nation to receive $5,000 from the "Share the Dream" grant program. Moustache Mania - Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, raised over $5,500 for the 2012 Movember campaign. The international fundraising project is designed to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer. Passion for Singing - The Chapel Hill Elementary School Music Sensations is in its fourteenth year of hitting high notes. What's Trending: Hitting High Notes - BCPS's best in music students from around the county recently performed during the annual High School Honors Concert, held at Morgan State University. Honoring Our Military - Norwood Elementary School's PTA, staff, students and faculty honored active service members and veterans during American Education week. BCPS News 11-5-12What's Trending: Emerging Leader - Ryan Imbriale, the principal of Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, has been selected as an Emerging Leader by PDK International. Hoops for Heart - Students at Halstead Academy took part in the "Hoops for Heart" program to raise money for the American Heart Association. Pumpkins for a Cause - Kingsville Elementary School decorated more than 50 pumpkins for the "Pumpkins for a Cause" campaign. The money raised will benefit the American Cancer Society. Navigating BCPS - The BCPS website just got easier. The websites home page now features a Directories link that consolidates offices, schools and parent resources. Battle by the Bay - Teams from sixteen BCPS Schools will participate in the "Battle by the Bay" robotics competition on November 17th at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. Safe Schools Conference - BCPS Hosted the 17th annual Safe School Conference for principals, school counselors and other school-based personnel. A variety of workshops were offered focusing on emergency plans, gang awareness and other safety topics. One Driven Student - Ebe Inegbenebor a senior at New Town High School, and ranked number one in her class, is a well- rounded student driven for success. She is also the President of the National Honor Society to the Maryland State Board of Education. Computer Games - Dozens of educational computer games created by BCPS students and teachers are now available online. Music Clinic - Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, recently hosted the United States Air Force "Rhythm in Blues Jazz Ensemble". The ensemble formed music clinics, to work with instrumental students to help them refine their skills. Carver Success - Orpheus Collar, a 2005 graduate from the Carver Center for Arts and Technology has adapted the bestselling fantasy adventure book "The Red Pyramid" to a 192 page graphic novel. His recent book signing and talk at Carver allowed students to experience the success of one of their own Camp Ramblewood - Baltimore County Public Schools Student Councils went on a leadership retreat to Camp Ramblewood. The main event featured motivational speaker Patrick George. Josh Shipp, a motivational Speaker, visits Kenwood HS with words of wisdom. During Fire Prevention week, kindergarteners from Baltimore Highland ES visited with the English Consul Volunteer Fire Department to see firsthand, what goes on inside the fire station. |
