Graduating Senior: Brookel Greggs

Brookel Greggs

Sparrows Point High School (Chesapeake Terrace Elementary, Edgemere Elementary, Sparrows Point Middle)

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

While attending Sparrows Point High School, I have been inspired and moved by my music education classes. Throughout my high school career, my music teachers are what have pushed me to become the person I am today. It was a great thing to know that my teachers weren't only there to get me through my music courses, but also help me with the struggles of life.

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

The accomplishment I'm most proud of is becoming the student I am today. As a child, I never enjoyed school, but now I feel as if I live here. I love being involved with afterschool activities and helping my teachers.

What’s next for you? What are your college or employment plans immediately after graduation?

In the next couple of months, I will be attending St. Mary's College of Maryland to earn my degree in music education.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In the next 10 years, I hope to be teaching a high school choir, and hopefully make as big as an impact on my students as my teachers have had on me.

“Brookel Greggs is a multi-talented student who embodies the Sparrows Point motto of ‘POINT PRIDE. Honor Tradition. Instill Integrity. Exceed Expectations.’ She demonstrates these qualities every day. Her work ethic, high standards, and positive attitude have led her to achieve great things during her time at Sparrows Point.

“This school year, Brookel auditioned and was accepted into the BCPS All-County Honors Chorus for the third time. She performs in nearly every music ensemble available at Sparrows Point High School, such as concert choir, steel drums, and orchestra. She is an asset to each musical ensemble and helps them to reach new levels of musical excellence. Ms. Greggs is a member of Tri-M (music honors society) and has been chosen multiple times for lead roles in the spring musical. Her dedication, talent, and responsibility have caused her to have great success in every role in which she has been cast.

“Peer leadership is one of her many talents. Brookel has served as the alto section leader for the past three years and as a leader she demonstrates intelligence, humility, and a sense of humor. She relates well to her peers and motivates them to excel. Brookel leads her section through example, by always being on time, prepared for class and ready to work. She knows her material and communicates it to less experienced students with patience and a natural knack for teaching. Brookel is exceptionally trustworthy, committed and embodies the ‘family’ atmosphere of concert choir. She balances her academics, extra-curricular activities and an after-school job with great responsibility and care. Brookel Greggs has been an asset to this school, and we wish her the best of luck as she continues her education at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in the fall.”
