Graduating Senior: Chibuzor Chukwu

Chibuzor Chukwu

Chesapeake High School (Deep Creek Middle)

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

Sports have been a major part of my high school life and have served as an escape from daily stress and problems. Since my sophomore year, I have played soccer as a midfielder and run outdoor track mainly as a long jumper. I have derived a lot from my teams, including sportsmanship, motivation, endurance, patience, strength, and, most importantly, teamwork. I am proud that my hard work paid off as I ended up making it to the BCPS all-star senior soccer game and also I’m currently being ranked top 3 in the 2A North region for long jump, working hard to make it to the state championships.

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

I must confess, my four years of high school were not very easy, especially because I had to balance between my academics, sports, honor societies, clubs, an internship, and a part- time job. I am very proud that I was able to maintain excellent grades and was admitted to Radford University, Towson University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Salisbury University, Loyola University of Maryland, Temple University, and Morgan State University with scholarships.

What’s next for you? What are your college or employment plans immediately after graduation?

After graduation from Chesapeake High School, I will continue my part- time job in the summer to save money. I also will be attending Towson University in the fall enrolled in the Honors College Program where I will major in computer science and art and design.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself graduated from college, obtaining a master’s degree in computer science with a job as a software engineer and art entrepreneur.

“Chibuzor Chukwu strives for excellence in all she does – whether it is in academics, the studio, or on the field. Chibuzor is an exceptional portrait artist who is able to capture the personality of her subjects through her mark making and compassion for others. As a member of the National Art Society, she has helped to bring the arts to the forefront of our school culture and has used her various talents to document Chesapeake’s Lighthouse journey. I am confident that Chibuzor will make a difference in the lives of everyone she encounters and will be successful at Towson University.”
