Baltimore County Public Schools’ Department of Communications and Community Outreach oversees a wide range of programs, activities and services to facilitate communication and engagement within the school system and with its many stakeholders and partners. The division is comprised of Communications, BCPS-TV, Copy and Print Services, Community Outreach, Family and Community Engagement, and Governmental Relations and Constituency Services. Each office reports to the Chief Communications Officer and is charged with providing services and assistance to schools and offices. BCPS Superintendent S. Dallas Dance and Chief Communications Officer Mychael Dickerson have been named the 2015 Leadership Through Communication Award winners. This national award is jointly sponsored by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), AASA - The School Superintendents Association, and Blackboard. The award includes a $10,000 prize, provided by Blackboard, to be used for student scholarships or communication activities that benefit students and schools. According to NSPRA, the Leadership Through Communication Award recognizes the teamwork and exemplary leadership of outstanding superintendents and their communications professionals for demonstrated commitment to the enhancement of communication and relationships between their school system and the families and communities they serve.
In addition, in 2016, the BCPS Department of Communications and Community Outreach received 11 communications awards from CHESPRA, the Chesapeake chapter of the National School Public Relations Association. Reflecting achievement in digital and traditional communications, the BCPS honors include:
