Teachers at Summit Park Elementary School have introduced Baltimore County Public Schools' new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) units to their Grade 1 students for the 2012-2013 school year.

To accent classroom studies regarding magnetic behavior and electric charge for the "Magnets and Electricity" unit, students have engaged in several hands-on activities with their classmates. These explorations and experimentations have allowed students to identify the north and south poles of magnets and view the movement of electric charge.

The next STEM unit, "As the Weather Changes," will provide each student with the information and tools necessary to build a real-life windmill.
