Maryland College and Career Ready Standards in Baltimore County Public Schools

Supporting our goal of developing globally competitive graduates

Welcome to the BCPS Maryland College and Career Ready Standards webpage!  This page and its links and videos are provided to engage and educate our community in the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and what they mean for Baltimore County Public Schools. We know that there are some misperceptions about the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards, and we hope we are able to answer your questions and provide useful information.

BCPS is addressing Maryland College and Career Ready Standards through communication, curriculum development and professional development. It is important to note that the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards are not a state-mandated curriculum. The Maryland College and Career Ready Standards establish what our students need to know at targeted intervals during their K-12 education.

BCPS is developing its own curriculum – written by us and for us -- and we will prepare our own  teachers for the rigor of the curriculum and to ensure that our students graduate as globally competitive young men and women.
Having new standards requires the development of new assessment tools to measure student progress. PARCC, the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, was created by a partnership of 22 states, including Maryland, to develop these assessments. For more information about PARCC, please visit http://www.parcconline.org/ or http://www.marylandpublicschools.org/MSDE/programs/parcc/index.html .

This webpage will be updated periodically with additional information and resources about Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and PARCC. Please visit again; we appreciate your interest in supporting the best possible teaching and learning in our schools.
