Tuition Reimbursement
The Baltimore County School System offers employees tuition reimbursement for the purpose of certification and educational enrichment.

In order to receive reimbursement you should adhere to the following:

  • Complete a Tuition Reimbursement Form (Teachers Only, all others use this form). Forms are available at all schools and can be secured by the schools
  • Attach an official transcript or certificate for continuing education units, to the reimbursement form. Include social security numbers on all documents
  • Attach a statement of fees (tuition statement) for all courses. Tax forms, cancelled checks, and credit card bills are not accepted. Proof of only the tuition cost is necessary.

The school system will reimburse up to nine (9) semester hours per fiscal year. The reimbursement cycle is from July 1 to June 30th. If a program requires more than nine hours per year appropriate documentation from the college must be submitted for further consideration. Cohort and/or partnership classes are part of the nine credits per year limit.

The rate as of July 1, 2007 is $250 per semester hour. Reimbursement for completed course work can be expected approximately eight (8) to ten (10) weeks following the receipt of the appropriate documents by the Office of Certification. When reimbursement is not being requested, submit only the original grade report or transcript or the original certificate of completion for CEU’s.

Funding for tuition reimbursement is budgeted on a fiscal year basis from July 1st to June 30th.  Tuition reimbursement is only available during the fiscal year in which the coursework appears as completed in the semester that appears on the official transcript. Some colleges and universities offer self-pace courses that allow a student to take more than one semester and up to a calendar year to complete the course.  This will present problems when applying for reimbursement.  For example, a student may register for a course in the spring semester and not complete it until the following fall semester.  If a student chooses to take such a course, they will not be reimbursed because the course will appear on the transcript as a spring course and he will be submitting the request for reimbursement at the end of the following fall which is a different fiscal year.

In addition, for the majority of courses being completed and requested for reimbursement during the normal or regular semester calendar, the request for reimbursement must be submitted within thirty (30) calendar days of when the grade is available at the college or university.  For courses completed in the spring, administrators are on duty during the summer to sign reimbursement forms.  Waiting until one returns to school in the fall to apply for spring reimbursement will disqualify one for reimbursement.
