Admission criteria have been established for middle school magnet programs as a means of ensuring student success. In order to qualify for admission into a middle school magnet program, applicants must earn at least 70% of the assessment criteria points. Only qualified applicants can be considered for placement.
Grades (20 Points) – Every quarter (or trimester) grade of D or E in any of the aforementioned academic areas results in the deduction of 3 points from the 20 possible points. No more than 20 points will be deducted for this assessment criterion.
There is no weighting or special consideration given to grades received in Gifted and Talented (GT) classes, trimester grades, or grades that are calculated on scales other than those used by the Baltimore County Public Schools.
Performance Factors (20 Points) – Every “Effort” grade indicating less than “satisfactory” performance in any of the aforementioned academic areas results in the deduction of 2 points from the 20 possible points. No more than 20 points will be deducted for this assessment criterion.
Applicants MUST obtain the Assessment Guidelines for each program to which they apply. Assessment Guidelines contain specific information about each assessment and any preparation required prior to the assessment.
Applicants who do not attend and complete
the magnet assessment will not be considered for admission.
