Under the direct supervision of a teacher, paraeducators assist students by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well being. Duties include working with students individually and in groups, reinforcing instruction, and assisting with classroom management. Paraeducators also perform other duties as assigned.
Paraeducators who are new to Baltimore County Public Schools participate in a comprehensive orientation. All paraeducators may then choose to extend their knowledge and enhance their practices by completing professional development workshops focused on content, instructional strategies, or behavior management. Daytime professional development sessions are offered each fall and spring. Paraeducators should monitor the Weekly Bulletin for information about upcoming specific workshop offerings and professional development sessions. Registration on the Online Registration System is required for all workshops and sessions.
